1. Take a tour of the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum

Built by Raja Mahant Ghasidas of Rajnandgaon, this museum was set up in 1875, and is one of the oldest museums in the country. This historical octagonal building flaunts a quaint library, and spans across 2 floors and 5 galleries. Check out the myriad ancient coins, sculptures, carvings, inscriptions, Buddhist bronzes, ornaments and clothes, belonging to the tribes of Chhattisgarh.

 

2. Enjoy a Family Picnic at Budhapara Lake

Built by King Brahmadei, a Kalchuri emperor of 1404 AD, you can spend hours sitting on the banks of the lake, and admire the stunning views. This Lake is also an amazing place for a picnic with friends and family.

 

3. Admire the architecture of Doodhadhari Monastery and Temple

Built by King Jaitsing in the 17th century, this monastery is famous for its amazing murals, spectacular architecture, and beautiful carvings. You could also soak in serenity here, as this temple is located on the banks of a river.

 

4. Seek blessings at the Mahamaya Temple

Dedicated to Mahamaya—an avatar of Durga, the Mahamaya Temple is thronged by tourists, who wish to offer prayers to the goddess. If you visit during Navratri and Durga Puja, you’ll witness an awe-inspiring pomp and grandeur here. You can also explore the Kho Lake and Budhapara Lake, tucked close to the temple.

 

5. Visit Statue of Swami Vivekanand

Popularly known as Buddha Talab, it is believed that Swami Vivekanand had lived in the vicinity, and often visited this sarovar. There is also a spot here, which is believed to be his favourite for meditation. It is here where you can admire the 37-feet statue of Swami Vivekananda, which has entered the Limca Record for being the largest statue.

 

6. Immerse Yourself in the Serenity of Hajra Waterfall

Situated about two and a half hours away from Raipur, Hajra Waterfall is tucked away in Dongargarh, and cascades beautifully from a height of 46 m. Visit this place to be enjoy lush greenery, thick forests and magnificent mountains.

 

7. Spot Wildlife at Nandavan Garden

Perched on the banks of the mesmerising Khaaroon River, Nandavan Garden boasts a mini zoo, that houses animals like tigers, panthers, lions and deer. There are also several recreational opportunities for tourists here.
