Overview

In the third century B.C., Emperor Asoka constructed the first temple in the Mahabodhi Temple Complex; the current temple was constructed between the fifth and sixth centuries. The current Mahabodhi Temple Complex at Bodh Gaya consists of the 50 m high grand Temple, the Vajrasana, the sacred Bodhi Tree, and other six sacred sites related to Buddha's enlightenment.

  • The entry to the temple is free.
  • Darshan Timings: 5:00 AM – 9:00 PM, open every day.
  • At the temple, 30-minute chanting sessions are held between 5:30 AM and 6:00 PM.
  • On the temple premises, using any electrical equipment is prohibited (viz. mobile, camera, laptop). There is free storage for the same available at the temple's entrance.
  • There is no facility provided for older citizens and those with disabilities. However, if necessary, a wheelchair can be provided.
