Originally built in the 1st century AD as a stadium for athletic contests and chariot races, Piazza Navona was transformed into a public square in the 15th century. The square is now home to three beautiful fountains, including the famous Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi (Fountain of the Four Rivers), designed by Italian sculptor Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
