Overview

Situated at 10,007 feet, the Tabo Monastery is the oldest Buddhist pilgrimage centre in the Himalayas. Even the Dalai Lama regards it to be the holiest monastery in the Indo-Tibetan region! With 23 chortens, nine temples and brilliant artwork on thangkhas, murals and statues, it makes for an awe-inspiring visit. And the well-preserved Buddhist artefacts makes it an important cultural centre too.
