Unwinding at the Beach

But of course! Your beach bum dad is going to love the serene beaches here at the Andamans. Not many beaches offer such breathtaking views together with some solitude, away from the general noise that crowds India’s other beaches. You can go to Radha Nagar beach, voted one of the best beaches in the world by travellers, for some bathing in the sea or to catch the beautiful sunset, or to one of the many quieter, unexplored beaches on Neil Island to see yet another gorgeous sunset.

Scuba Diving and Snorkelling

When you have had enough lazing around,  persuade the family to go scuba diving with you. The Andamans are perfect for first-time divers. You can easily train with experienced divers for an hour or so before starting your scuba diving adventure. As you dive in, you enter into a rich and enthralling underwater world full of colourful corals in mind-boggling shapes and sizes. You can also feed the fishes here, literally: multi-coloured shimmering schools of fish will swarm around you as you feed them bread crumbs or dried bait. Barefoot and DiveIndia are the most trusted names when it comes to a safe scuba diving experience. Both these centres are situated in Havelock, which has an incredible reserve of corals.

If you prefer a less adventurous pastime, snorkelling is another great water activity that can be enjoyed by all age groups. Elephant Beach in Havelock is one of the best places to enjoy snorkelling because of its rich marine life. Maybe you’ll even spot a sea turtle making its way back to the sea.

You can even for a glass-bottomed boat ride to view the corals through the crystal clear waters of the ocean.

Exploring the Unexplored

While most of the Andamans is all about beaches, the Northern Andamans, home to many indigenous tribes like the Jarawa, offer different delights.Take a drive on the Andaman Trunk Road through dense, lush forests to the limestone caves in Diglipur. You could also take a trip to Cuthbert Bay, home to leatherback turtles and the Lalaji Bay Beach, where you can watch dolphins leaping out of the waters. If you are fond of history as well as the beach, go for the light and sound show at the Cellular Jail at Port Blair for a scintillating evening.

Enjoying the Seafood

Even if you are not much of a foodie, the scrumptious seafood here at the Andamans is bound to change your mind. Reserve a night to spend some quality time with family, with a lavish seafood platter and perhaps some wine. Apart from the numerous small cafes dotting the many islands in the Andamans, where you can sample everything from freshly caught fish to Israeli and continental fare, Port Blair is easily your best bet for quality seafood. The Red Snapper and New Lighthouse Restaurant are worth mentioning.

So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags and convince your family to go on one of the best, most relaxing, vacations of their lives.
