For a weekend filled with activity, plan a trip to Bokaro district in Jharkhand. It boasts of the largest steel plant in Asia and several prominent corporate names. Known for putting India on the industrial map of the world, Bokaro serves as a nice weekend stopover from the hustle and bustle of Kolkata.

Places to Visit in Bokaro

Bokaro Steel Plant: When in Bokaro, a visit to the steel plant is deemed essential. Currently undergoing a major modernization program, this plant owned by the Steel Authority of India (SAIL) has an output of close to 5 million tons of steel per annum! Discover the workings of a steel plant (if that’s something that you’re intrigued by). It’s a great learning experience for all the budding industrialists out there !

Garga Dam and City Park: Apart from the industrial visit, there’s much to explore in Bokaro. Head out to Garga Dam, with its lush green surroundings, or enjoy a picnic at City Park, a man-made Japenese-style lake.

Jawaharlal Nehru Biological Park: The biggest zoological park in Jharkhand, it is home to Royal Bengal tigers, Asiatic tigers, and even has a kid’s corner! Go boating on the artificial lake or take a ride on the Toy Train- Mowghli Express.

Parasnath Hills: Parasnath Hills, located at a height of 1,350 metres, is the pilgrimage spot for hundreds of Jain devotees. Apart from the Jain temples, Ram Mandir is a famous temple visited by tourists.
