With so many vacation avenues in India and abroad, it takes some pleasurable fussing around to find a good spot that suits the entire family. With everyone looking for different things in a holiday, it could turn hairy sometimes! As always, we want to be helpful and that’s why we suggest Delhi for your summer holidays this year. Call us crazy for asking you to go to Delhi in the sweltering heat, but look at the rewards you could reap – lip-smacking food, magnificent monuments, intriguing museums and loads of shopping.

Delhi is the quintessential shoppers’ paradise, no denying that. You’ve got everything from the budget friendly Sarojini Nagar, rooted-in-tradition Delhi Haat and the maddening Chandni Chowk to swanky malls and the uber-stylish Khan Market. What makes the cake sweeter are all the summer sales in markets and malls. Now, who wouldn’t want a piece of all that action? Since it could get exhausting to visit all the sales, the Select City Walk Mall in Saket is making it easier for you with its Summer Carnival. So think shopping; all the fun thrown in for the kids; pack your bags, defy all logic and be a Delhi tourist this summer for some splendid  retail therapy.

The What & Where

Here’s the ‘what’ and ‘where’ of the Select City Walk’s Summer Carnival. Now, we’re not going to even talk about the ‘why’ because seriously, who needs a reason to shop?

The Summer Carnival at Select City Walk Mall in Saket in New Delhi is usually held in the month of April. Getting to New Delhi is easy with air, rail and bus connections to every major city in the country. Once there, pick out a good hotel; choices are umpteen; and pick your mode of transport to the Select City Walk Mall. The best choices would be either the Metro Railway or Delhi Tourism’s special HoHo buses. If you are close enough to Saket, take an auto rickshaw or a bus and if you plan to visit other markets in the city (you should!) hire a car for the day and be a classic Delhi tourist gawking at all the monuments as you flit from one shopping area to the other.

At the mall, let yourself loose on the ground floor– that’s where the 3-day shopping carnival will be. Be ready to surf over 50 stalls that will offer you everything shopping-worthy; from branded apparel to footwear, jewellery, gifts and unique collectibles. While you are making significant dents in your credit card, the kids can enjoy adventure rides and games in the specially built activity area. Punctuate your shopping bout with regular trips to several food stalls around the carnival area and sample some of Delhi’s signature foods like choley bhaturey and chaat. The mall is home to several great stores like the recently opened Sephora; explore and find gems like Cheemo, Kazo and Punk for chic rags and stylish accessories.

More Shopping

Your Delhi trip would be a great way to start the summer but if you ditched all the other markets in favour of air-conditioned malls, the loss is yours! Delhi is synonymous with shopping and some of the coolest local markets to soak up the essential Delhi flavour are: Sarojini Nagar & Lajpat Nagar for affordable clothes & accessories, Janpath & Tibetan Market for handicrafts, fashion jewellery and footwear and finally Sunder Nagar for exquisite arts and antiques showrooms. If you’re in the mood for some haggling, lots of shopping, sampling tasty Delhi treats, in no particular order, a Delhi trip is on the cards for you!
