As the monsoons continue drenching the land, it’s time to set out for yet another eventful trip and enjoy some exotic locations in India enveloped in rich greens. Well, exotic here does not necessarily imply expensive. Here are 3 beautiful destinations you can holiday in under 10K this August.

Jaisalmer, Rajasthan

Best from: Delhi

The glorious sand dunes of Jaisalmer have given it the title of ‘Golden City’. Furthermore, the city’s rich cultural heritage draws national and international tourists alike. Be it architectural marvels like the Jaisalmer Fort or Badal Palace, manmade masterpieces like the Windmill Park, or natural hamlets like Khuri, Jaisalmer is full of surprises waiting to be unleashed.

Make it happen:

Hotel:  INR 1400 per day (approx.) Jaisalmer is full of budget hotels that are comfortable and ideally located. The popular ones are Hotel Royal Haveli, Hotel Akashdeep or Hotel Tokyo Palace.

Food: INR 400-500 per day (approx.) You can binge on spicy street food, enjoy various north Indian dishes or enjoy an elaborate Rajasthani thali. Try out a meal at Trio or Natraj Restaurant.

Transport: You can take a train from Delhi to Jaisalmer for INR 475 (one way) in sleeper class. Within the city, auto rickshaws are the best way to get around. All you need is INR 400 to INR 500 per day for local sightseeing. Do set aside INR 1000 for a desert safari.

Majuli, Assam

Best from: Guwahati

Nestled away from the hustle bustle of city life, Majuli is a quaint island on the Bhrahamputra River, located just 20 km from Jorhat. It is the world’s largest river island, and home to some popular religious staras (seats), which adds to its cultural vibrancy.

Make it happen:

Hotel: INR 1500 per day (approx.). Wherever you choose to stay in Majuli, there is no way you can escape a discourse with nature. Stay at Ygdrasil Bamboo Cottage or Hotel New Park.

Food: INR 400 - 600 per day (approx.) Simplicity underlines the food in Majuli. Varied varieties of rice and typical Assamese delicacies are a must try. Try The Meridian Restaurant for an authentic spread.

Transport: Majuli is a great place to enjoy water transport as you ferry from one place to another. You can take a bus from Guwahati to Majuli @ INR 300 (one way), and the rest can be managed within INR 300 – INR 400.
