By now, it’s my second nature to look for strange places. It’s my 20th blog in this series and I’ve realised that you don’t have to travel to remote places to find something unique, you never know it can be right under your nose. Like the one I spotted in Taiwan. I think ‘weird’ is the most befitting word to describe this fancy-looking restaurant… No seriously, I mean it. The last restaurant which took me by surprise was the El Diablo in Canary Islands but that was a pleasant one. If it was dinning on top of a volcano then, this one err… is on a toilet seat.

Sorry but no sorry, at Modern Toilet Restaurant, we serve like this!

It’s Seat Down Here

Housed in Taiwan, this unique and bizarre restaurant is almost a study in scatology. The three-storey building is spread over an area of 2800 square foot. And the interiors here; well discover it for yourself! From bathtub tables to toilet seats (these seats might have been functional at some point before, you never know), urinal-shaped glasses to toilet bowls and glass-covered sinks to bulbs designed in faeces. This world of bathroom is sure to bring back the disgust in an innovative manner.

The Man Behind the Toilet

Mr. Dao Ming Zi.

His inspiration, Dr. Slump, a Japanese cartoon character who plays with poop and swivels it on a stick. What started as a poop-shaped ice-cream shop in 2004, soon transformed into a full-blown toilet restaurant. Such is the popularity of this restaurant now that it seems to be flourishing in 12 different cities in Asia including Hong Kong, China and Japan.

What Would You Like to Order? Poo-Poo or Pee-Pee

If you thought the interiors weren’t enough to make you go eww, check out the menu which might disgust you, make you lose your appetite or leave you puzzled as to what do you even order?

Order any drink in the miniature urinal container and you can proudly take that plastic urinal as a souvenir for your home.

Call it unpleasant, simply yuck or strange, the Modern Toilet restaurant sells for its out-of-the-world concept- edible excretion and spotless execution. While some people would visit for experiencing the unthinkable for others it’s just good food served uniquely. And yes, before I leave you to your imagination, parents be careful when bringing your children here, especially when it’s time to go p****.

So now you have all you need to know about the Modern Toilet Restaurant, would you dare to visit? And if you do, what would you order? Share your favourite dish with us.
