Pratapgarh

Belha Pratapgarh, also known as Pratapgarh, serves as the district's administrative centre. During his reign from 1628 to 1682, local king Raja Pratap Bhadur Singh made Rampur, a fortified city and established a fortress he named Pratapgarh. The settlement that grew up around the fort was eventually given the name Pratapgarh. The district's administrative centre was located at Belha, later renamed Belha Pratapgarh, after the nearby Belha Bhawani Temple, which was founded in 1858. The name Belha is thought to have been inspired by the temple's location on the Sai River's bank. Often referred to as "Belha Mai," which translates to "Mother Goddess Belha," the name has gained widespread recognition.

Pratapgarh - The Charming City of Uttar Pradesh

A city and municipality located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Pratapgarh is a stunning tourist destination. Pratap Bahadur Singh (1628-1682), a local king, was responsible for the construction of a fort at Rampur and gave it the name Pratapgarh. Over time, the town grew up around the fort and several beautiful tourist sites in the city occurred.

During the course of the archaeological investigation of various tourist sites in the city, many human remains, as well as animal bones and a range of different small stone artefacts, dating back to the Neolithic period, were unearthed. It is the only location in the whole Ganga valley that has unearthed a prehistoric human skeleton as well as artefacts from the Stone Age.

On the other side of the river Sai, on the left bank, there is a ruined "Kot" that represents a Buddhist Stupa. It has been hypothesised that the ruins in the town of Bihar are most likely those of an old Buddhist monastery, which is believed to be the source of the town's name. Bihar is a symbol for Vihar, which may be translated as majesty. The very name alludes to the Buddhist religion.
