Most of the wineries have also encouraged wine tourism in India and beyond by setting up modern, aesthetic wine tasting tours complemented with fun activities ensuring guests have a good time. Easily the most popular brand of wine in India, Sula has found its way into many a living room for an evening of dignified drinking with friends and family. They have captured almost 70% of the Indian market – with good reason – as they combined taste with a no-frills price tag. But if you really want to get a sense of the brewing process, head to the Sula Vineyards for a wine tour, complete with tastings and fun group events. There’s even a SulaFest held every February, which is one of the hot items on the Indian event calendar. To make things even more comfortable, the Vineyards have established a resort nearby, with 32 balcony rooms facing a swimming pool. Guests can also avail discounted rates for wine tours and tastings.

The reason for visiting one of the oldest winemakers in the country is two-fold; Grover Vineyards is known for producing some of the best oak-matured Shiraz reds and Cabernet Sauvignons in the country. Plus, the location for the award-winning winery is amidst the leafy landscapes of Nandi Hills, a popular weekend getaway for Bengaluru residents. Several wine trails await you across the 410-acre property, and you can even have sneak a peek of the extensive barrel room. Try the Brut, Shiraz, Chenin Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Sauvignon Blancs samples here – you won’t be disappointed.

One of the more recent additions to the Indian wine market, Fratelli (translating to “brother” in Italian) started out in 2007 and has gained a well-deserved reputation for brewing some of the best Sette reserve red in the country. It is known for producing some excellent reserve labels from its 240 acre estate in Solapur, Maharashtra. The vineyard has provisions for exclusive and interactive tours and tastings- along with a choice to stay at the luxurious resort nearby- which goes a long way in complementing the fabulous collection of white and red wines in the Fratelli collection.
One of the latest entrants to the bevy of Indian wines is the Charosa label, which has the distinction of introducing the Reserve Tempranillo – a special Spanish grape flavour – to the Indian market. The elite brand tends to target the premium segment of wine enthusiasts, and is also known for its excellent Sauvignon Blancs, and Voigniers. While the road to the Charosa Vineyard may be a little challenging, it is certainly worth the effort, what with being in one of the most exclusive vineyards in the country. It is certainly worth the bragging rights when you’re sharing the fruity Tempranillo with your friends later.
The second largest winery in Nashik after the celebrated Sula Vineyards, Chateau d’Ori brings the French love for wines into India and how. From Cabernet Shiraz brands that compete with the best across India to Merlots that are the hot favorites across wine country, Chateau d’Ori has dedicated all 400 acres of its vineyard estate towards producing some of the most quality wines across the market. The vineyards also produce Myra wines in partnership with Myra Vineyards.
