Sports and the Snow

Daring much? Just go for these winter adventure activities in Azerbaijan where even thrill feels like heaven!

Live in the Moment on the Slopes of Shahdag

Mountain Shahdag is home to the first ever ski resort in Azerbaijan and the only mountain coaster activity in the Caucasus. The 1,670 m track features 9 enthralling turns and introduces you to the snow-covered landscapes and peaks. Test your resilience with snowshoeing, one of the popular winter sports at Shahdag, if you may. There are two snowshoeing tracks at Shahdag, one (1.2 km) is designed for beginners and another (3.8 km) for true adrenaline-junkies at heart. No matter which track you are on, this is bound to be electrifying.

Cherish Childhood Memories with Sporting at Tufandag

Tufandag Mountain has what it takes to make one feel nostalgic: swings! It will tickle you with memories as childhood reels in your head. Here’s the twist: There are two different swings (7m and 20m) installed on a mountain peak at an altitude of 1,920m – perfect for an adrenaline-filled flow. Whichever height you opt for, the stark mountain heights and gorgeous snow views will cheer you on!

Enjoy Skiing in Agbulag

Head for skiing on the magical, mystical snow of Nakhchivan! While Nakhchivan is famous for archeological sites and cuisine, it also attracts tourists who just want sheer thrill. Located an hour away from this beautiful town is the village of Agbulag – a destination with effortless charm. During winter, Agbulag celebrates winter sports, including skiing. The surroundings make this activity even more memorable and is a must-experience for everyone.

Festive Experiences

The cold months in the country have the calendar brimming with lights and celebrations. So, mark your calendars accordingly.

Go to Fountain Square

From December to the first two weeks of January – you get to see Azerbaijan’s party mood at its best as the Fountain Square takes the centre stage. Take your family to the Winter Wonderland, walk on the winter-clad boulevards of Baku, watch the shops encircled by groups of excited shopaholics and tourists, and explore the fair as much as you can.

Cosy up to the Warmth of ‘Cold Hands, Warm Heart’

As feel-good as its name sounds, “Cold Hands, Warm Heart” is a charity fair organised at the Fountain Square in Baku. The carnival has so much warmth, colours and New Year cheers around, that you will want to enjoy a little bit more of it. Meet iconic cartoon characters, musicians and jugglers. Buy gifts and souvenirs from stalls, which is not only a testament of a beautiful time in Azerbaijan, but also a chance to help heal the children suffering from serious diseases.

Tour Baku during New Year

Blocking a day around in time for New Year just to see Baku is Azerbaijan winter essential! Fair and fireworks, fountains and décor – the capital city is abuzz with celebratory settings to welcome the new year. Visit the Heydar Aliyev Centre, Baku Crystal Hall and the iconic Flame Towers to witness the fireworks decorating the sky. Walk on the cobbled streets of Icherisheher to shop and dine while dwelling on exuberant vibes.
