Warangal

Warangal is a beautiful city located in the Indian state of Telangana. The city was originally called Orugallu, meaning one stone. The city was ruled by the Kakatiya dynasty and according to popular belief, the city is said to be carved out on a single rock. The city is located in the eastern part of the Deccan plateau. Being located in the arid region of Telangana, Warangal has a hot and dry climate almost all around the year. The summer season usually starts in the month of March and continues till June post which marks the onset of monsoons. A dry winter starts in October which continues till February. Warangal is also among the eleven cities that were chosen for the ‘Heritage City Development and Augmentation Yojana’. It is also a part of the smart city program due to which major urban and industrial development opportunities have emerged. Other attractions include Mettu Gatta, Kazipet Dargah, and water bodies like Waddepally lake and Dharmsagar lake. Apart from being a major tourist destination, Warangal is also famous for its cuisine.

The thousand pillar temple is a majestic temple located in the small village of Hanamakonda in Warangal. The temple has over a thousand pillars that are beautifully placed next to each other and has been built in a star-shaped structure. The temple is visited by more than 1000 devotees every day and is dedicated to three deities- Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu and Lord Surya.

The Eturnagaram Wildlife Sanctuary is one of Telangana's oldest wildlife sanctuaries, located around 110 kilometres from Warangal. Because of its high biodiversity, the old Hyderabad government declared it a wildlife reserve in 1953. The Dayyum Vagu River divides the refuge into two sections, adding to its allure. The sanctuary is densely forested, which adds to the picturesque beauty of the region. This beautiful area attracts travellers from all over and is known to be a photographer’s delight.
