During the time of the Hindu monarchs, the area now known as Jaunpur was ruled by the Ahir dynasty, and it was there that the historic Maa Sheetla Devi Temple was built. Sheetla Devi is also known as Chaukiya Devi, after the elevated platform on which she was reportedly first erected. The term "Chaukia Dham" refers to the little platform upon which the Goddess's idol has been installed.

Even though it looks like the Atala Masjid, this mosque is much smaller. Due to its proximity to Queen Bibi Raji's Lal Darwaza, the mosque was given that name. The mosque, located on Jaunpur's outskirts, is commonly referred to by its alternative name, Ruby Gate Mosque.

There is a complex history behind Shahi Qila (Royal Fort), also known as Karar Fort and Jaunpur Fort. The Rathore rulers of Kannauj donated much of the building materials that went into it. Islamic raiders smashed these religious buildings. Lodhis, who took over from the Tughlaqs a century later, demolished the fort. However, under the rule of Mughal kings Humayun and Akbar, it underwent substantial renovations and repairs.
