‘The long weekend is coming, let’s go somewhere!’

With the Republic Day long weekend around the corner, everyone’s busy making plans to head somewhere nearby. If you’re a Mumbaikar, a retreat to Lonavala for three days will be blissful. Having been there, here are my top picks for places to visit to enjoy your weekend getaway from Mumbai.

Places To Visit In Lonavala:

Lonavala Lake: Whether it’s a walk with your partner around the Lonavala Lake or a picnic lunch with the kids, this place is ideal for spending an afternoon outdoors. It’s approximately two kilometres away from the town area.

Karla Caves: Built by Buddhist monks, these rock cut cave shrines have been of interest to both archaeologists and tourists. Built into a hillside, this cave complex is a stunning example of early Buddhist temple art.

Lohagad Fort: If you’re up for some adventure, head to Lohagad or Iron Fort, one of the key tourist places in Lonavala. The 11-kilometre trek may be a little tiring, but the panoramic views from the fort will be worth the effort. Best covered on a day trip, the fort has a long history associated with it and was used by all dynasties who ruled the Maratha kingdom.

Imagica: This one is for the kids and the child in you. Adlabs Imagica Theme Park has roller coasters, a free fall ride, and other attractions that guarantee a fun-filled day out with family. Motion simulator ride, themed attractions with Alibaba, Mr. India and more entertainment awaits you!

Besides going to these exciting tourist places in Lonavala, do try the famous chikki! There are plenty of varieties available, and it makes for a great snack to take back home after the weekend getaway.
