Think Rajasthan, and you think of a land of palaces, forts and majestic havelis still bearing a stamp of the opulent days of the royal era. Another key aspect of Rajasthan’s rich architectural lineage is its unique stepwells, created to bridge the water shortage in this desert state. Even though they serve a basic human need, most of these stepwells have been built to reflect the Rajput rulers’ love for larger-than-life architecture. So, when I came across this package by MakeMyTrip offering an exclusive dinner by a stepwell, I lapped it up instantly for its sheer uniqueness.

A Dazzling Dinner amidst Gorgeous Heritage

Imagine enjoying a specially curated dinner at a 16th Century Stepwell at Narlai village in the Pali District of Rajasthan. In the true spirit of Rajasthani royal hospitality, the evening began with a welcome drink and a lowdown on the history of the place and legends associated with it. We were then adorned with traditional turbans and scarves before being whisked off to our destination on a bullock cart. The bumpy ride through the narrow village trails as we watched the sun go down was a delightful experience in itself. While the dinner setting at the stepwell was mind-blowing, the culinary treat with a sumptuous spread of authentic Rajasthani delicacies made the experience truly extraordinary. We spent the next few hours indulging in exquisite gastronomical fare, even as a local jogi singing folk songs kept us entertained.

Exciting City Tours and Sightseeing

Apart from the stepwell dinner, the package also includes a tour of historic cities of Udaipur and Kumbhalgarh. After beginning our trip with a hearty lunch at a secluded restaurant near the Fateh Sagar Lake, we spent our time exploring Udaipur. This included a boat ride on Lake Pichola, and visits to Jag Mandir, Saheliyon-Ki-Bari, Museum of Folk Arts and the Monsoon Palace. After a day-and-a-half of walking through the alleys of Udaipur, we headed for the fort city of Kumbhalgarh and spent the rest of the day exploring the majestic fort. Our experience-led holiday in Rajasthan was indeed a memorable one!
