In Circulation Since

1948

Since it was first introduced in 1948, the Pakistani rupee has served as the country of Pakistan's official currency. The State Bank of Pakistan is Pakistan's central bank and the body that is in charge of the issuance of money as well as the regulation of its use. All financial dealings in Pakistan are conducted in the nation's PKR currency, which is an abbreviation. Locally, the sign for the Pakistani rupee, which is denoted by either the Rp or Rs letter combination, is commonly used. The rupee is subdivided into 100 paise. Rupees, rupaya, and rupaye are all common names for the Pakistani Rupee. The Pakistani rupee symbol is Re. or Rs.

There are now nine different denominations of currency in circulation in Pakistan: 10, 20, 50, 75, 100, 500, 1000, and 5000 rupees.

The Pakistani rupee rate today is INR (⚠️ ) . Please keep this in mind that the Pakistani rupee price keeps fluctuating.

History of the Pakistani Rupee

In 1947, with the end of British control in Pakistan, the Pakistani rupee was officially introduced. In the beginning, Pakistani currency was nothing more than British Indian coinage that had the word "Pakistan" printed on it. In 1948, a brand new set of monetary denominations, both coins and bills, was introduced into circulation.

In 1948, the following coin denominations were introduced: one pice, one half an anna, one anna, two anna, one quarter of a rupee, and half a rupee. In 1951, a coin worth one pie was first circulated. In 1961, the first coins with denominations of 1, 5, and 10 pice were issued. Later that same year, coins with denominations of 1, 5, and 10 paise were produced. Coins for 10 and 25 paise were issued for the first time in 1963, while the 2 paise coin came into circulation the year after that. The one rupee currency was issued again in 1979, and then the two rupee coin was issued again in 1998, and the five rupee coin was issued in 2002.

The minting of coins for 1 paisa and 2 paise was discontinued in the years 1979 and 1976, respectively. After the year 1996, the 5, 10, 25, and 50 paise notes ceased to be used for circulation.

Best Ways to Identify Counterfeit Pakistani Rupee Notes

counterfiet

There are a few ways through which you can spot the counterfeit Pakistani Rupee notes:

  • green check

The banknote paper has a security thread that is partially implanted into it. This thread is designed to resemble a window. It runs all the way down the left-hand side of the front, all the way to the bottom. A second security thread, which cannot be removed, can be found partially inserted in the front left side of each banknote. When held up to the light that is emitted, this thread appears to be whole and unbroken. However, when the thread is spread down flat, it gives the appearance of being sloppy and broken. This is a significant red flag that the money in question might be fake.

  • green check

The pattern that is found on the banknotes is not printed, but rather etched into the surface that is coated, which gives the design a form that is slightly raised.

  • green check

The image of Quaid e Azam is printed as a watermark on the front of each banknote, on the left-hand side. This particular watermark does not appear elsewhere on the note at any time. Instead, in order to get the intended look, it was created by cutting and scratching through many layers of paper. When a note is placed on a level surface, the authenticity of the note can be determined by searching for a little white outline that surrounds the watermark, and when the note is held up to transmitted light, the currency value can be seen in the picture.

  • green check

When the authentic notes are exposed to transmitted light, the denomination numerals that are located on the left top of the obverse and the right top of the reverse do not fade away as you might anticipate they would.

  • green check

Due to the anti-scan and anti-copy line patterns on the note, it is not feasible to directly scan or photocopy the note.

  • green check

There is a security thread that has the appearance of a window on the top and bottom left corners of the front left side of the bill. When viewed in both regular light and ultraviolet light, it has a distinct change in hue.

  • green check

The front of the note features a design that consists of a series of geometric shapes.

  • green check

The denominational numeral is printed in Urdu on the right and left upper sides of the note, however, it is written in English on the right lower side of the note. Both sides of the note bear the same design.

  • green check

Intaglio lines can be found at the extreme left and right corners of a banknote.

  • green check

The paper that is used to create banknotes is a unique type of paper that cannot tear or curl in any way. In addition to being more robust than tissue paper, it also cannot be folded in half like paper towels.

  • green check

Genuine currency, when subjected to excessive force, has the potential to shred, but you will never observe it breaking. However, most counterfeiters in Pakistan print two sides of bogus notes and glue them together with a forged security thread in the middle, which eventually causes the two sides to separate.

  • green check

Bills that have been tampered with can be identified as such by rubbing your finger across the watermark on the bill. If you sense a shift in texture beneath your skin, it is quite likely that the note is genuine. However, you should most likely go ahead and accept it if the zone around the watermark is even and unbroken.

  • green check

The ink that is used on Pakistani banknotes is one of a kind and is designed to withstand being wet without spreading. In the meanwhile, the ink on the counterfeit bills will become illegible very rapidly if they become moist. A simple rubbing motion combined with a drop of water placed anywhere on the surface of the note will expose any attempts at counterfeiting. The smearing of the ink is a clear indication that the note cannot be trusted.

  • green check

It is important to keep in mind that actual bills, when held up to a black light, will not emit a glow in the dark. However, when counterfeit Pakistani banknotes are subjected to UV light, the paper will frequently change colour and sometimes even sparkle.

  • green check

In Pakistan, counterfeit banknotes are frequently identifiable by their colour, which is identical to the colour of the national flag. The 500, 1000, and 5000 banknotes all have flags, and depending on the angle at which the note is seen, each of the flags will exhibit a different colour. If they don't, you have every reason to believe that the money is fake, and you should decline to accept it.

  • green check

The Urdu value of the note is printed in the upper left-hand corner of the face of the money. If you place it on a level surface, all that will be visible from the figures is their shadows. However, if you hold the note up to the transmitted light, you will be able to read all of the figures on the note.
